The Oversight Committee on Mines and Mineral Resources has on Tuesday 4th August 2026 engaged SH Mining Company and Land owning families at the Administrative building Conference Room in Parliament. The engagement is to look in to compliant made by the Land owning families to the Rt. Honourable Speaker of the House of Parliament, Solomon Sengepore Thomas.

During his opening remakes the Acting Chairman of the Mines Committee, Hon. Edward George who is representing Moyamba district said that the meeting is in relation to several complaints received by the Speaker of Parliament the Rt Hon. Solomon Sengepore Thomas and the complaint was directed to the Committee to look in to it and take necessary actions for sustainable peace and development.

Hon. Edward George said that the Committee is going to look in the complaint with all fairness without fair and favor. He went on that they are representatives of the people in Parliament and they are seeking their interest and also the interest of the company. The Honourable Member of Parliament said that the Committee have received several complaints from land owning families ranging from unfair treatment, no agreement with the company, no payment to the Land owners in the various communities the company is operating.

He added that the communities includes, Shengai town, Moisay Moiah community, Morgamakuhun Largo Kpatema and. Tamatehun. Presenting his frustration during the hearing before the Committee Gbessay Bangs one of the land owners in Shanghai said that there is no agreement existing between them and SH mining Company. He went on that the leadership of SH mining Company always refer them to the chief when ever they asked for anything instead of the land owners.

Gbessay Bangs also said that they refuse to sign for the amount they want to give to them because there was no proper documentation. He further told the Committee that the company has started constructing mini plants without fullfiling their initial agreement. He said that since this is their government and they have much respect for and they cannot afford to undermine the peace they are enjoying that is why they brought the mining to Parliament for Parliament to take necessary actions.

Making his statement Councilor Morray Lamin said that sometimes in October he received distress call from the youths of Kpatema village. He said that the youths informed him that they saw company working in their land without their knowledge. He said that he asked the youths to stop them immediately and see if they will go further with the work.

He accused Foday Barrie of not working in the interest of the people. He said that they called for the lands lease agreement which they never did. He said that during the construction of the road to their mining site they damage a lot of plants which belongs to the farms and they never pay for them.

In conclusion the Acting Chairman of the Committee Hon. Edward George adjourn the meeting to Tuesday for the company SH mining to present all relevant documents to the Committee for further scrutinizing.
